Wonderlab Certifications
All Wonderlabs require certification for members to use the shops/machines/tools independently. These classes include safety measures, standard shop procedures, and general instruction.
Please see below for a complete list of certifications that are required.
*Everyone requires certification regardless of experience - no two shops are created equal and we need everyone using them to learn how our particular tools and shops run. The costs associated with the classes also help with maintenance and upkeep so thank you for supporting the Wonderlabs!
Community Woodshop
Every member using the community woodshop must first attend the WonderLabs Safety Orientation
The following trainings can be done in any order depending on which machines you want to use.
Woodshop Tools 1:
Tools Covered: Panel Saw, Miter Saw, Sanding Machines, Bandsaws

Sewing Lab
Every member using the sewing lab must first attend the WonderLabs Safety Orientation
The following trainings must be done in order:
Sewing Lab 1:
Bernette Home Machines

Cost: $30

Prerequisite:
-
1. Have taken the Intro to Machine Sewing Class, or
-
2. Have prior experience using home sewing machines including threading the machine, winding a bobbin, adjusting thread tension, setting stitch parameters.

Sewing Lab 2:
Juki Industrial Machines

Prerequisite:

Have already taken the Sewing Lab 1 certification and either:

Taken the Intro to Industrial Machines Class, or
-
Have prior experience using industrial machines including threading the machine, winding a bobbin, adjusting thread tension, setting stitch parameters.

silver Studio
Every member using the metalsmithing studio must first attend the
WonderLabs Safety Orientation
The following trainings must be done in order:
Silver Studio 1:

Tools Covered: hand tools, buffing machines, flex shafts, general silver studio safety.

Cost: $30
-
Prerequisite: You must have experience using buffing machines/wheels, flex shafts, and the general hand tools of the silver studio such as saws, pliers, hammers, mandrels, stamps, etc.

Since we often don't have a safety monitor in the silver studio, we expect members to be self sufficient with the majority of the tools available.
Silver Studio 2:

Acetylene torch

Prerequisite:

Used acetylene torches enough in the past that you know how to:

swap tips on the torch
-
turn the tank on
-
properly set the regulator
-
bleed the line when finished
-
turn off the tank
