our story
the history of wonder institute
Since 2007, Wonder Institute (previously Center of Wonder) has been providing thought-provoking programs, unique art experiences, and support for local organizations, schools, small businesses, and artists to present their visions.
From its inception, Wonder Institute has believed that empowering the arts and creative education lies in collaboration and partnership. As an organization, our greatest asset is the trust we have built among community leaders and creators. Our goal is to make it possible for them to reach their highest potential.
Through this spirit of collaboration we have partnered with some of the valley's most influential and innovative organizations. We have proudly assisted local arts and innovation organizations to achieve their visions and fulfill their missions.

past programs
Artists-in-Residencies were established and supported across local arts organizations to invite artists to share their creative practice with our community, while embracing the uniqueness of Jackson and how it influences their work. These residencies encouraged the creation, presentation and sharing of art through interdisciplinary exploration and community engagement.
Art Installations were curated to spark wonder, create conversations and enhance our daily lives. We presented House, Shelter, Home at the Teton County Library, featuring 15 local artists. Our UpYard was a group show that artistically explored our skyscapes. In 2008, former JH Public Art Ambassador and local artist Bland Hoke created the ArtSpot, an outdoor art installation space, built from a repurposed chairlift pole. Artists were selected to present in this space.
Arts Advocacy is needed to make the arts vibrant in Jackson. We have worked with our local elected officials to support the arts community. We've gathered data about the arts by participating in important economic studies led by national organizations such as Americans for the Arts.
past grants
Collaborating for a Creative Community (C3), was founded to enhance the landscape of arts and creative education in our community. We believe that through a collaborative grants initiative, we can encourage and inspire our community to work together to generate innovative ideas that leverage artistic talent, resources and venues.
Arts For All grants supporting arts education, producing and presenting opportunities, and public projects with a strong community benefit. This fund is supported by social service tax dollars from the Town of Jackson & Teton County.
Our grants programs have awarded more than $1,000,000 through grants and awards, involving over 150 artists and organizations, and reaching more than 70,000 community participants. They have supported the launching of Artists-in-Residency programs and impactful creative education initiatives for all ages.
