Merging conservation and innovation to protect sage grouse near Jackson Hole Airport
Teton Raptor Center and Wonder Institute are spearheading an ambitious project to build realistic robotic sage grouse decoys. By combining the Raptor Center's behavioral expertise and audio recordings with the Wonder Institute's fabrication and engineering capabilities, the JH RoboBroncs are creating lifelike decoys designed to lure sage grouse away from hazardous areas. This collaborative effort includes Grand Teton National Park, Jackson Hole Airport, Teton County School District, and the Jackson Hole RoboBroncs. Students at Jackson Hole Middle School are contributing by creating static decoys to enhance the realism of the scene. To amplify the project's impact, Dan Caudill of Shadow Glow Media is documenting the entire process, with plans to showcase this groundbreaking partnership through PBS and film festivals, bringing awareness to this innovative approach to wildlife conservation.
